Classroom OS dilemma

Last semester was the most frustrating semesters i had.. No its not the students.. its the computers that we are using. The computers are AMD athlon and only got 256 MB of RAM, we installed Windows XP of them few semesters ago and we weren't able to contain the worms and viruses, and last semester things really got out of hand. Even if we format our pc and installed an updated the anti virus software, it wont take a week before this newly formatted pc to be infected again.

So starting tomorrow I'm going to try a handful of Linuxes, I want to try an old version of Ubuntu, Fedora, or maybe Mandrake. What ever works perfectly and smoothly on a pc that has only 256MB RAM would automaticall be considered as a primary software.

Geez I hope someone is reading this, and maybe could suggest other Linux distros I could use.

$600 laptop + Linux = AWESOME!

I'm using Compaq Presario C702TU laptop which is between $450 to $550. Bought an additional 1GB RAM which I think for only $45. Installed Ubuntu Linux on it, And VOILA! I turned my cheap laptop into a super powered laptop.

Right now my baby could run any possible application that would come into my mind, without having to fear on crashing or getting a virus from internet or from those pesky flash drives.

I tried running Innotek Virtual box while surfing and viewing Youtube and its great! So if you're tired on having those worms and virus which makes youre online or pc experience very limited, then try Linux...Ubuntu linux to be exact.

E-mail me at bamboozled.instructor@gmail.com and maybe we could share some notes, you know like a buddy system wherein we can share our knowledge and know how on this wonderful operating system.

my first ubuntu experience

Ok this is my very first blog and I'm planning on making an online journal on my move from windows to linux..ubuntu linux to be exact.

I tried Red hat, Mandrake, and Fedora, but I think Ubuntu is much easier to install. If you're a linux convert like me, and got some problems with Ubuntu Linux installation and setup.. you could visit ubuntuforums.org or you can google it.

Right now I'm using Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon and its working perfectly! I installed VLC, Bluefish, and Innotek Virtualbox (to install Windows XP just incase I need something from windows), and believe me guys everything is working perfectly!
